Ruben Amorim insisted Tyler Fredricson and Harry Amass ‘deserve better’ after the pair were on the losing side following Manchester United’s defeat to Wolves.

Just days after their thrilling victory over Lyon in the Europa League, United reverted to type in the Premier League on Sunday.

Pablo Sarabia’s free kick condemned the hosts to their 15th league defeat of the season with United limping towards the end of what has been a wretched domestic campaign.

With huge European ties against Athletic Club on the horizon, Amorim has promised to rotate his side and hand more game time to some of the club’s young stars.

With Leny Yoro, Harry Maguire and Diogo Dalot among those rested on Sunday, Fredricson and Amass came into the side to face Wolves.

Amass was making his home debut for the club having started against Leicester City before the international, creating a number of chances in a bright performance at left wing-back.

20-year-old Fredricson also turned in an assured display at the back with Amorim praising both their performances.

‘The season is not over but what I felt today is that they [Fredricson and Amass] deserve a better memory of from their first games,’ Amorim said in his post-match press conference.

‘Tyler played really well, also Amass played really well and they deserve better.

‘We were the better team, we created chances, but in the end, one opportunity for the opponent and they score. So the memories is not the best for these kids but they played well.’

Rasmus Hojlund drew another blank in front of goal having now scored just once in his last 28 appearances.

17-year-old Chido Obi was brought onto replace the misfiring Dane with Amorim insisting he is not under pressure to pull him out of the first-team.

‘The only way I know is to work with him and show him videos. He needs to score a goal and he will not score a goal if he is out so I try to manage that in games,’ Amorim said.

‘He needs to score one, that’s all a striker needs.

‘If you look at the games we have several players who missed big chances.

‘But of course the game for Rasmus is to score goals because he is a striker. But it is a team thing. Our team should score more goals, it’s not just Rasmus not scoring goals.’
