The problem

In California, a girl under age 18 can’t get a tan at a tanning salon, a cavity filled, or an aspirin dispensed by the school nurse without a parent knowing. But a doctor can perform a surgical or chemical abortion on a young girl without informing a parent.

The answer

Proposition 4 will require a doctor to notify at least one adult family member before performing an abortion on an under-18-year-old girl.

Medical professionals know that a young person is safer when a parent or family member is informed of her medical situation. Someone who knows the girl and cares about her future can help her understand all her options, obtain competent care, and work through the problems that led her into the situation to begin with.

On a daily basis, older men exploit young girls and use secret abortions to cover up their crimes. More than thirty states currently have parental/family involvement laws like Proposition 4 in effect. States which have laws like Proposition 4 have experienced real reductions in pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases among young girls.

Sarah's Law reaches half-way mark to ballot:
We are over 1/2 of the way there!

551,000 signatures collected out of 1.1 million needed.
As of Thursday, February 21, the signature count for Sarah's Law topped 551,000.
Sarah's Law will require that a doctor notify at least one family member before performing an abortion on an under-18-year-old girl. Sarah's Law backers must collect 1.1 signatures in the coming weeks to guarantee a spot on the November California ballot.
Do this to protect our children. This is your contribution.     Sarah's Law needs you.  Our children need you!
Order your petitions now, go to and order your two petitions (ten signatures). Every signature is important, no matter how small the effort.
Churches -- on runway, in the air, landed
Over 1000 places of worship supplied with petitions and blue envelopes
Since late November churches of different denominations -- most prominently Catholic, Calvary Chapel, First Assembly of God, Southern Baptist, and Foursquare-- have been quietly collecting signatures to put Sarah's Law on the ballot.
Calvary Chapel of Downey turned in 684 signatures, St. Michael's of Poway over 1000 (and still collecting), and Calvary Chapel in Santa Ana 465.
In addition to collecting signatures, churches are distributing thousands of 6" x 9" blue envelopes for churchgoers to take home to friends, neighbors, and co-workers. Inside the blue envelope are two petitions, an explanatory letter with instructions, a flyer with Sarah's story, and a return envelope.
What to say to your fellow church-goers
The words that work

"Good morning. I would like to ask you to close your eyes for 30 seconds and imagine a young girl or woman you know-- your daughter, your granddaughter, your niece, a friend. Imagine that she is 15 years old and that contrary to her family's expectations, she gets pregnant. In order not to disappoint her family she gets an abortion; the doctor unknowingly tears her cervix, and she goes home with a massive infection. Her family has no idea why their daughter is running a high temperature. Within a few days this young girl dies.
"This is the story of Sarah, who was a real 15-year-old who died. And it because of Sarah and the other young girls exploited by the abortion industry that we are putting Sarah's Law in the November ballot in California. Sarah's Law will require a doctor to notify one parent before performing an abortion on an under-18-year-old girl. In the case of parental abuse the doctor can notify any adult relative-- a grandmother, aunt, adult sibling.
"We ask you to do two things. Please sign the petition after Mass/service today. And please take home the blue envelopes handed to you by the ushers/volunteers. Inside the envelopes are petitions-- we ask you to use them to get signatures from your friends, neighbors, and co-workers.
"Passing Sarah's Law will save thousands of lives in California-- of the unborn and of the young girls-- and have ripple effects far beyond California. God bless you.".

A parent or family member has the right to know if the minor child they love and care for is having surgery, no matter what the surgery is.
Our current California Law is flawed.
Sarah's Law will fix the flaw.

"Even though I’m a big pro-choice guy, this one is so reasonably done, and it really does say, ‘Hey, parents have a right to be notified, and, if there’s any fear of parents somehow punishing you, then we have ways of dealing with that, and here they are.’”
